See you next year on May 16th!

This year, Get a RunningStart celebrated women's fitness for it's 12th season in a row. Thanks for your part in making this event such a success!

We saw almost 200 racers participate- more than half of whom were runners!  Out of the 81 walkers and 94 runners, who came out:
-65 were first-time racers
-45 were part of a mother-daughter pair or family group
-90 raced as part of a team
-175 finished in under 2 hours!

Keep up the great work- have a strong and happy summer and we'll see you next year!

Great New Prizes for 2009!

A few years ago, we asked all of you to help us recruit new racers by encouraging your family, friends and co-workers to run or walk alongside you..

We began recognizing:

  • Mother-Daughter Pairs
  • Family Groups
  • Self-Organized Teams (i.e. John Fuller School, Memorial Hospital, Curves..etc. Last year, the Berlin Hillsiders competed and won the Team division with almost 50 participants!)

So, to thank everyone for your enthusiasm in past years.. and to encourage the same level of participation this year, we have come up with some great new prizes for 2009. Check them out!

  • The fastest Mother-Daughter Pair will receive 1 Hour of Free Sport Massage, courtesy of Darcie Shipman at Blue Mountain Massage in North Conway
  • The largest Family Group will all receive $15 gift certificates to Road ID, the leader in durable, rugged, athletic and fashionable identification gear for athletes in every field
  • The largest Self-Organized Team will win one afternoon or evening of Private Use of the Majestic Theatre at the Conway Cafe on Main Street in Conway, New Hampshire for the entire team to view the film or DVD of their choice

I want to extend a BIG THANK YOU to all of our sponsors who donated these prizes.. and I hope you are all as excited as I am!

Start logging those miles for this week... we've got less than 5 more to go. See you out there!

A Welcome from the Race Director

Hello!
As the new Race Director for 2009, I want to welcome all of you to the Get-a-Running Start community.  With less than 6 weeks to go before the 12th Annual race, I think it is about time to start communicating directly to all of you who make this event so meaningful- the racers!

If this is your first road race or if you are new to Get-a-Running Start, please take a moment to look around the website and its various links.  There's a lot going on!

Returning racers will notice a few positive additions to Get-a-Running Start that you should check out too:
  • This community website!  It's new, and it's interactive, so feel free to post questions, suggestions, training tips or just general comments right here on the site.  We welcome your input and will respond as soon as we can
  • A facebook event page where you can easily invite your friends to join you and see who else is participating
  • A dailymile event page at dailymile.com where you can log and track your training progress, show off pictures, send positive motivational messages to people you know, search for other upcoming fitness events and find friends to run, walk, bike, hike or even skip with as you prepare for Get-A-Running Start on Sunday, May 17th
  • An official partnership with the National MS Society who will receive partial race proceeds
  • A new option for Wheelchair Participants in the Walker's Division
  • A post-race RAFFLE with incredible local prizes*
  • Red Fox Bar and Grille Brunch, free for all racers and $5 for family and spectators*
  • A cool new T-Shirt design- free for the first 175 registered runners & walkers
* 100% of Raffle and Brunch proceeds will go directly to the National MS Society

From now until RACE DAY: SUNDAY, MAY 17th, I will continue to post updates and helpful details about the race, our sponsors, race and raffle prizes, and training information.

Make sure to check back often or simply select "Subscribe to: Posts" below this entry or the "Follow" button in the right-hand column of the page to receive email notifications whenever new information is posted.

That's it for now... it's time for me to go running.  See you out there!
