Winners of the Largest Team Award

Congratulations to THE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL for winning this year's Largest Team award!  Thanks in large part to Meg Phillips, HR specialist for the hospital and an incredible team motivator, the Memorial Hospital team participated with 28 runners and walkers!

The Hospital participants have won private use of the Majestic Theatre and Conway Cafe on Main Street in Conway Village for their entire team to view the movie showing of their choice.  Get a Running Start sends out a HUGE thanks to the Conway Cafe for this awesome prize donation- keep it in mind next spring when putting together your own teams!

Get a Running Start would also like to recognize:
  • The Berlin Hillsiders who brought 17 walkers from north of the notch and
  • The John Fuller School who came with 13 runners and walkers from around the valley

Winners of the Fastest Mother-Daughter Pair Prize

Congratulations to Sandra Hooper and her mom Diane Yamartino for winning the Fastest Mother-Daughter Pair award!  Diane was the 3rd overall walker to cross the finish line and Sandra placed 14th in the runner's division with a time of 39.44.

Sandra and Diane have both won a gift certificate for 1- hour of free sports massage from Darcie Shipman at Blue Mountain Massage, located on Route 16, directly across from the Adventure Suites Motel.
Thanks Darcie.. and Congratulations Ladies!

*NOTE: Winners are determined by lowest combined PLACE (within racer's respective runner/walker category) rather than lowest combined time, so as not to discriminate against mother-daughter pairs in the walker's division.

Race Results and Event Pictures

It's too nice to sit inside and type up race results right now... but they should be posted tonight sometime after the sun goes down! Thanks for waiting!

Also, anyone who has great pictures from Sunday that they would like to see on the website, please email them to me - suzannederson@gmail.com - and I'll add them to the slideshow. If we collect enough, we can make a new, 2009 slideshow too!

It's a great day.. get out there!

FIT TIPS! from Mountain Center Physical Therapists

1. STAY HYDRATED!

Proper hydration is critical for your cells and body to function properly. You should be drinking water thoughtout the day; avoid "tanking up" just prior to the race or a workout.  If you drink sports drinks, try diluting them with 50% water to allow your body to better balance it's electrolytes and salts.

2. STRETCH!

A good stretch after a workout or race will help your body recover more quickly and to reduce the risk of injury.  You want to stretch while your body is still warmed up and be sure to stretch each muscle group for at least 20 seconds.

Stop by the Mountain Center Physical Therapy tent on race day to learn how to stretch or enhance your current stretching routine.

2009 T-SHIRT DESIGN

Because of so many new race sponsors and partners in 2009, Chuck and his great team of graphic designers at Maine Street Graphics in Bridgeton, ME invested extra time and creativity to help me re-design this year's T-shirt.

The colors and front design will remain a surprise until race-day, but here is a sneak-peak at the brand new back.. hope you like it!

T-shirts go to the first 175 registered racers and we still have a few left... so sign up now!
